Pressure mounted or freestanding pet gate?

Having a pet in your home means that sometimes you will need to limit temporarely or more permanently the access to certain areas of your home. A pet gate can be a easy and convenient solution that won't require any modifications in your living space.

Richell offers various wooden gate models but there are basically two main categories: the pressure mounted and the free standing pet gates.

Pressure mounted gates

Pressure mounted gates can be installed on doorway or hallway openings. These gates have doors that allow you to pass through (without the need to remove the entire unit). The gate's door can be opened in both directions. Pressure mounted gates are ideal if you want a more permanent solution for your home.

The pressure mounted gates require installation. The procedure is simple and quick, but probably you’ll need the assistance of someone when centering the gate in place. The pressure mounted gate is installed just by turning a knob so the unit is secured in place.

The most popular Richell pressure mounted gate is the One-Touch Adjustable Pet Gate. It comes in a wider variation (the One-Touch 150 model).

In the pressure mounted category you can find as well the Easy Lock models that has a narrower gap between the door spindles, and the Dog Sitter gates that are low profile gates. Because of their dimensions these gates are ideal for puppies, smaller sized dogs or cats.

Freestanding gates

The freestanding gates are self supportive gates. They require no installation, just simple assembly.

These pet gates are ideal if you don't have any appropriate walls to install a pressure mounted gate but you have to close doorways or wide entrances. They are ideal for a temporary solution as well. They are very convenient because you can move them around your home and place them wherever you need. When you are not using the freestanding gate you just have to fold it and store it. This gate is a more flexible solution.

Even though there are not fixed to an opening the freestanding gates are sturdy enough to confine your cat or dog. The Richell freestanding gates have a hardwood construction, side panels and a large base that prevents them from tipping over. On the other hand, they are low enough for you to stride them over. Most free standing gates models can be adjusted in width.

As far as the price is concerned it varies depending from the model, quality of the material and size, and it ranges from 70 $ (for the Pet Sitter Gate) to 240 $ (for the Convertible Elite Pet Gate).
